Safia, who was appointed as the Project Director of the National Centre in January 2012, has led and directed the successful delivery of the design, build, finance and maintenance of the project.

Before joining the National Centre project Safia led the delivery of major strategic projects and modernising services as Corporate Issues Director.

Safia originally trained as a biological scientist, completing her PhD and undertaking post-doctoral research into environmental and genetic causes of male infertility.

A change in direction saw her participating in the NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme, while studying for her MSc in Healthcare Management. On completion of the scheme she joined the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) as a Programme Manager, developing her skills and expertise in progressive positions, before being appointed as Programme Director and thereafter Acting Director of SIGN in 2009.

Safia is a member of numerous professional bodies including the Guidelines International Network, of which she is a founding member. She is also a regular columnist for Surgeon’s News published by the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.
