SNP targets infra investment

21/04/2015

The Scottish National Party (SNP) has focused on investing in infrastructure as a key part of its election manifesto. Unlike the main parties, the SNP’s document includes a section on investing in infrastructure, which pledges additional capital spending with a particular emphasis on investment in the north of England and Scotland.

“We will also seek adequate transport infrastructure investment, with a particular aim of improving transport and communication links across the north of these isles,” the manifesto states.

Among the plans are making the connection between HS2 and Scotland a priority and establishing a housebuilding target across the UK of 100,000 affordable homes per year.

The SNP has a strong track record in developing models for private finance, having created innovative funding methods such as the non-profit distributing (NPD) model, versions of tax increment financing and the National Housing Trust scheme to increase housebuilding.
